England to reveal T20 squad on Wednesday

(CRICKET WORLD)

England will meet Tuesday's official deadline to submit their final 15-strong squad for the forthcoming ICC World Twenty20 - but will not announce the list to the wider world until Wednesday.

An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman confirmed on Monday that the squad will be halved on schedule by "close of play" on Tuesday, from the provisional 30 named at the start of this month.

Those who will be travelling to the Caribbean with Twenty20 captain Paul Collingwood will then be published at 1pm on Wednesday.

The final squad for England's reigning World Twenty20 champion women's squad will be named at the same time.

England's provisional 30-man ICC World Twenty20 squad: PD Collingwood (Durham, captain), JM Anderson (Lancashire), IR Bell (Warwickshire), RS Bopara (Essex), TT Bresnan (Yorkshire), SCJ Broad (Nottinghamshire), SM Davies (Surrey), JL Denly (Kent), ST Finn (Middlesex), C Kieswetter (Somerset), MJ Lumb (Hampshire), SI Mahmood (Lancashire), AD Mascarenhas (Hampshire), EJG Morgan (Middlesex), G Onions (Durham), KP Pietersen (Hampshire), LE Plunkett (Durham), MJ Prior (Sussex), AU Rashid (Yorkshire), OA Shah (Middlesex), A Shahzad (Yorkshire), RJ Sidebottom (Nottinghamshire), GP Swann (Nottinghamshire), JC Tredwell (Kent), PD Trego (Somerset), IJL Trott (Warwickshire), DJ Wainwright (Yorkshire), CR Woakes (Warwickshire), LJ Wright (Sussex), M Yardy (Sussex)

Waqar aims to boost team morale

(CRICKET WORLD)

New Pakistan coach Waqar Younis hopes to invigorate his troubled team ahead of next month's World Twenty20, saying his top priority will be to restore faith among the players.

Pakistan are still reeling from the aftermath of their disastrous tour of Australia, where they lost all three Tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 International and will defend their World Twenty20 title in the West Indies next month.

"I think the team lacked faith," Waqar told reporters at the start of a three-week training camp in Lahore.

"They were not able to perform in crunch situations, so my first task will be to mix with the players and raise their morale."

The dismal performance of Pakistan during the Australian tour, which ended last month, resulted in bans and fines on seven leading players, including former captains Mohammad Yousuf and Younus Khan over charges of indiscipline.

Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan were banned for one year and heavily fined.

Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal were also fined heavily and put on a six-month probation.

Coach Intikhab Alam was replaced by Waqar earlier this month.

Pakistan, who won the second edition of the World Twenty20 in England last year, are placed in Group A alongside Australia and Bangladesh in the 12-team event, which runs from April 30 to May 16.

Waqar, who took 373 wickets in 87 Tests and 416 in 262 ODIs, praised the leadership qualities of Afridi.

"Afridi is an all-rounder with a positive frame of mind who has been bowling excellently in the last two years. His mere presence on the field generates a fighting spirit among the players.

"So I am confident that both of us will work together to deliver the desired results."

Waqar singled out fielding as the key area of improvement.

"During the camp we will stress on the fielding because in a Twenty20 match, 15 to 20 runs can make the difference and this you can save through good fielding," said Waqar.

"Any team which plays well on the day can win a Twenty20 match, it's tough to predict who will win but in my opinion Australia, India and South Africa are playing well.

"Our bowling is good and for me Afridi, Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Hafeez will be key bowlers."

Warner wallops Knight Riders Monday 29-March-2010 15:09

(CRICKET WORLD)

David Warner helped the Delhi Daredevils to a comfortable 40-run Indian Premier League victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders with a sparkling century in Delhi.

Warner displayed a dazzling range of strokes as he smashed an unbeaten 107 off 69 deliveries and Paul Collingwood, playing his first game this season, hit the ground running with a nicely-paced 53 as the Daredevils reached 177 for four.

In reply, Chris Gayle (30), David Hussey (29) and Angelo Mathews (24) all got starts but failed to kick on as the Knight Riders were restricted to 137 for nine, their fourth defeat in seven matches.

Captain Gautam Gambhir, back from injury, decided to bat first, but that decision seemed to backfire as the Daredevils lost three of their top-order batsmen in quick time.

Gayle opened the bowling for the Knight Riders and secured an early breakthrough by luring Virender Sehwag out of his crease and having him stumped.

Gambhir was then trapped in front by Charl Langeveldt and Dinesh Karthik was bowled via an inside edge by Ishant Sharma as the Daredevils slipped to 38 for three in just under three overs.

Despite the fall of wickets, Warner kept the run rate up by blasting Langeveldt for a couple of boundaries and smashing Ishant for two boundaries and a six.

Collingwood, who had joined Warner at Karthik's fall, was off the mark with a single, smacking Gayle for a cracking boundary early in his stay and neatly rotating the strike thereafter.

He nicely stepped up the pace at the death, racing past the half-century mark by bludgeoning Gayle for a couple of sixes and added 128 for the fourth wicket with Warner before his dismissal in the final over.

Warner, who had walked off believing he was caught and bowled by Murali Kartik on 96, was recalled after the third umpire's intervention and reached his century off 66 deliveries, completing the Daredevils' recovery in excellent style.

The Knight Riders too suffered blows at the beginning of their reply as Sourav Ganguly, Mandeep Singh and Manoj Tiwary all departed in the space of 21 runs.

Gayle offered some hope, but he holed out in the deep at the start of the ninth over, while Hussey (29) and Mathews (24) kept the chase alive for a while, but all too briefly for the Knight Riders.

Collingwood finished off a good day with the wicket of Ajit Agarkar - caught and bowled - in his only over.
