Jayawardene secures stunning win
KOLKATA: Mahela Jayawardene struck a stunning unbeaten century as Kings XI Punjab made light work of a seemingly imposing target of 201 to beat Kolkata Knight Riders and claim only their second win of the Indian Premier League.
The Knight Riders had given themselves a great chance of victory by making 200 for three on a batsman-friendly Eden Gardens track, West Indies captain Chris Gayle leading the way with 88 from just 42 balls.
But the recalled Jayawardene went even better, smashing 110 not out from 59 deliveries, and received strong support from fellow Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara in a stand of 98 for the second wicket as he led his team home with 10 balls to spare.
Earlier on Saturday night, Mumbai Indians defeated Deccan Chargers by 63 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
